Author’s Comments
Valerie, my favorite character to write, is back in this adventure that’s quite different from the rest. I wanted to get away from the standard Superkids fare, and as in the last Valerie book, I get to throw her into quite a few challenges!
Secrets
- This was actually the second novel #7 I wrote. The first one, which I finished, we put aside because it was connected to close to the original #6 I wrote, that we put a hold on. Eventually, the first novel #7 became novel #10, The Runaway Mission.
- I had a blast researching pirates for this novel. Check out chapter 4–where a lot of that research shows up.
- On page 49, you’ll notice the name of a ship: the zf42 Perry Flyer. Perry’s my first middle name.

I thought this book is the best book I ever read in my whole life. My favorite part is when the sharks can’ t open their mouths and they just keep on bumping into Valerie. I liked this book because Jesus solved all of Valerie’s and Alex’s problems. When I read this book, it felt like it was really happening to me. Also, when I was reading I felt like I was going to cry because it was so good. Truly I thought this book was AMAZING. I THOUGHT IT WAS SO GOOD I WANT TO READ THIS BOOK AGAIN. –Kristina, age 8, South Dakota
